FBHP RESPONDS TO COVID-19

Important Information for our Members

Farm Bureau Health Plans is committed to the protection of both our members and employees during these uncertain times. We are ensuring our members and employees have access to the support, care and educational resources required to successfully navigate the COVID-19 outbreak.

We also want to assure our members that, although we’ve had to adjust the way we do business, we are still here to answer your calls and pay your claims. While many of our employees are now working from the safety of home, we are continuing to deliver the service you’ve come to expect from Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Farm Bureau Health Plans has been protecting Tennesseans since 1947 and we will continue to do so – no matter the challenges placed before us.

COVID-19 TESTING AND RELATED SERVICES

INDIVIDUAL/FAMILY AND SHORT TERM CARE PLANS

Beginning February 4, 2020, FBHP members will pay no out-of-pocket costs for approved and authorized COVID-19 testing and test-related visits. Both the testing and related visit will be paid at 100% for any place of service, including telemedicine visits through December 31, 2020. This applies for any Under 65 coverage you may have with us, and to providers and facilities both in-network and out-of-network.

Additionally, for our Under 65 members, we’ve expanded our telehealth/telemedicine benefits to include telehealthvisits with in-network providers. This applies to all visits for covered services from March 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.  Behavioral health telehealth/telemedicine visits with in-network behavioral health providers are also included.  Benefits will be provided as currently outlined in the plan policies for behavioral health. Co-pays and deductibles will be applicable at the specific plan level. Please note we continue to re-evaluate our COVID-19-related coverage with applicable dates being subject to change.

We’d also like to remind members about an important benefit included in their FBHP coverage plan – the prescription home delivery service from Optum Rx. This valuable benefit can help limit our members’ possible exposure to COVID-19 at a supermarket or pharmacy by having a 90-day supply of their medications delivered right to their door. Please click here to learn more.
  • Please note, telehealth is a type of visit.  Teladoc is a provider of telehealth services. While all Under 65 plan members have access to general medical services via Teladoc, behavioral health services are not currently provided under the Teladoc benefit.
MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT PLANS

For our Medicare Supplement members, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has shared the following information related to COVID-19 related coverage:

  • Medicare covers lab tests for COVID-19 and the related physician’s visit. You pay no out-of-pocket costs.
  • Medicare covers lab tests for COVID-19 and the related physician’s visit. You pay no out-of-pocket costs.
  • Medicare will cover the approved benefit amount for medically necessary hospitalizations. This includes if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 and might otherwise have been discharged from the hospital after an inpatient stay, but instead you need to stay in the hospital under quarantine.
  • Medicare has authorized that most covered services, at least through June 19, will be covered at standard benefit levels even if performed through a telehealth service provided by authorized physicians and practices.
  • If you have a spouse or family member in a nursing home, CMS has announced new regulatory requirements requiring nursing facilities to inform residents and their families of any COVID-19 cases in their facilities.
  • If and when a vaccine for COVID-19 becomes available, it will be covered by Medicare Part B or by a Part D prescription drug plan as a preventive measure with no cost sharing required.
Please visit Medicare.gov for more information concerning CMS’s response to COVID-19.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

As a reminder, FBHP has convenient online payment options for paying non-quarterly paper invoices, returned payments and restoration of coverage.  While this does not include quarterly payments, if you are currently paying by this method, this would be a great time to update your billing preference to monthly bank draft.  The form to set up this monthly draft can be found by clicking here

At this point FBHP does not foresee any disruption in drafting premiums.  Click here for online payment options.

We want our members to know we are here to support them through this challenging time. And we’d like to remind our members about the benefits of your coverage.

FOR TENNESSEE RESIDENTS

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak is rapidly evolving with a state of national emergency being declared by President Trump on March 13, 2020. Governor Bill Lee declared a state of emergency in Tennessee effective March 12, 2020.

For the most current information on COVID-19 cases confirmed in Tennessee or to see cases at a county level, click here.

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) will continue to work closely with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), other state agencies and metro/regional health departments to protect the people of Tennessee.

PROTECT YOURSELF

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water (or alcohol-based hand rub) for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing or sneezing.  Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your arm or a tissue.
  • Clean and disinfect objects (i.e. cell phone, computer) and high-touch surfaces regularly.
While 80-85% of those who contract COVID-19 will experience mild or no symptoms, some people are at higher risk of experiencing severe symptoms from this illness. This high-risk group includes older adults and those who have serious medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes or lung disease.
If you are at a higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19, you should:
  • Stock up on supplies like food, toiletries and medicines.
  • Keep space between yourself and others.
  • When in public, keep away from others who are sick, limit close contact and wash hands often. Avoid crowds as much as possible.
  • Avoid cruise travel and non-essential air travel.
  • During a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to reduce risk of exposure.
